Master Craftsmen at Advantage
Yesterday I retrieved my car from the body shop. It had a little repair work on the rear bumper after an inappropriate meeting on a slippery street, and a cracked windshield to be replaced.
Ben Gareau is the owner of Advantage Collision in Saskatoon and JG’s Collision in Prince Albert. Advantage is under the capable management of Charlie Matus and his crew of expert collision repair people.
What sets one body shop apart from the hundred others in town? In the case of Advantage it is the attention to detail and the degree to which they truly care about customers. My van was in and out of the shop on time, on budget and in better shape than it went in. And it’s not just the repairs, which is what I expected, but the fact that it was spotless inside and out after thorough detailing. That was like icing on the cake.
I asked Ben how they achieve that high degree of mastery in a commodity business like auto body repair. He explained that they place a lot of emphasis on customer care and on doing the best quality work possible, using the best materials. They are always learning too, pursuing higher levels of knowledge and expertise. The journeymen are actively engaged in teaching and coaching the less experienced people so that overall, their expertise grows continuously. Top that with constant reinforcement about the importance of quality workmanship done right the first time every time, and you have a winning combination for success.
A focus on continuous improvement and a focus on meeting the needs of customers. That is how you achieve mastery. The master craftsmen at Advantage certainly demonstrate that.
